John Van De Poel, Sr. retired from the Contra Costa County Superior Court joined the firm effective May 1, 2005, to serve as Of Counsel.
Judge Van De Poel
sat as a Civil Department Judge for eight of his ten years of service before
retiring in May, 2002. He held one of the best records for
settling matters in the Civil Department’s Fast Track Litigation.
Mr. Van
De Poel has practiced law for more than 30 years. Before being appointed to
the bench, he was the managing partner of Van De Poel, Strickland,
Haapala & Altura in Oakland, California, practicing civil litigation, principally
personal injury defense. Prior to that Mr. Van De Poel was a partner with Bryant
Bennett in Oakland and the firm known as Bennett, Van De Poel, Campbell & Strickland
with offices in Santa Rosa (Sonoma County) and Oakland (Alameda County).
Judge Van De Poel holds the highest designation,
AV, from Martindale-Hubbell, and is a past President of the American Board
of Trial Advocates. (ABOTA), Northern California chapter; past President of Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada; past President of the Alameda County Bar Association and is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Judge Van De Poel
brings a wealth of valuable experience and expertise to our clients having practiced
in the San Francisco Bay Area for well over 40 years.
As Of Counsel, Judge
Van De Poel assist the firm in education, file handling reviews, mentoring,
brain-storming, planning and strategy for discovery,
law
and motion and trial tactics. Judge Van De Poel can also provide services
as arbitrator and/or mock trial judge.
